Have you ever looked at a painting or been someplace and just knew that it 'spoke' to you, yet in trying to express why, words failed you? This is the nature of resonance! Resonance is deeper than language and beyond linear thought. It is a soulful experience. This is how the Ascribe glyphs work...through resonance! Artfully moving logic aside, they 'speak' to you like silent prayers. Some will speak to you directly; some will bring another to mind. Below I share a bit about how they came to me and why I believe they reflect an aspect of the light within us all.
One morning in early 2023 I awoke with a symbol in my mind's eye and a profound awareness that it was a specifically for me. As I sat in stillness, contemplating the symbol I'd received, I came to understand the all-encompassing meaning it carried for my life. Having been trained at the master level of reiki decades before, I understood the power of symbols. I created a pendant of this symbol and use it for centering myself in my own personal healing work.
Later that year I spontaneously began drawing symbols such as those shown here. I began incorporating them in my artwork and discovered an affinity for certain ones. I could not explain why but I also felt that some symbols 'belonged' to certain people in my life. Each carried a resonance that I could not explain logically but my fascination with the process spilled into much of my creative process. I began designing and making artist books using these glyphs and other spontaneous asemic writing as the text.
In early 2024 I was guided to the bio-geometry work of Ibraham Karim. His work centers on the understanding of drawn shapes in the form of "signatures" as frequency generators that harmonize within the auric field. While the use of the symbols he offers is vastly different from those expressed in my artwork, it was my fascination with mysterious symbols that introduced me to his astounding work. Using it to facilitate healing and balance is now central to my personal studies and self-healing application.
The Ascribe symbols and resulting artwork is still a mystery to me.....and who doesn't love a good mystery. I will continue to work with the Ascribe glyphs and asemic writing and perhaps one day I will be shown more about them. Perhaps they only came to introduce me to the work of Ibrahim Karim and if so, that is saying quite a lot!
The Ascribe series speaks to the resonate spiritual nature of our being and what happens when we tune into it. My hope for this series is that it is an outward expression that moves one inward. Like visual prayers I put them out into the world to touch the hearts and minds of those with whom they resonate. Some pieces will be available for gallery shows and various exhibits while others will be available for purchase and listed on this website. I use the first symbol that I was given as an energetic talisman. My journals are filled with contemplative insights and a-ha moments centered on the resonance of that symbol and its meaning in my life.
Tapping into one's own energetic language for the purpose of emotional and spiritual expression is not only creatively rewarding but beneficial on many levels. Giving expression to thoughts, ideas and emotions that are quite literally beyond words is at the core of this practice.
Think about diaries, journals or handwritten letters. As you write, an intimacy develops between you and the page that is unlike the spoken word. Once you have tapped into your own energetic signature, the expressions that fill the page are a direct dialogue between your physical and non-physical aspects. You are energetically plugged into and directly communicating with the deeper aspects of self. The soulful expressions that fill the page are like visual prayers which transcend linear communication. This creative transmutation process is freeing and healing on many levels.

Below are several detail images of the assemblage piece I built for showcasing artist-books 1, 3 & 4 of the Ascribe series. Artist-book 1 rests atop an antique, four-faced stone sculpture which was once an English garden finial. Sourced from London and brought to America, it found its way into this assemblage piece as do many of my 'found object' treasures. The book itself is comprised of handmade opaque papers that were cut in a semi-circle to insert the glyphs I was inspired to write on translucent papers. A handmade ribbon bookmark, which I adorned on the ends with beads and brass charms, weighs down the first and last pages, holding the book open. Eight pages then stand splayed so that the light plays upon the gold edged transparent section of each page illuminating the glyphs as written, as well as reversed. The four-faced stone piece rests on a hand carved wooden box that I also sourced and sits atop a three-tiered platform that I built to symbolically represent an altar. To the left and right of the central platform, on the lowest tier, are artist-books 3 and 4; scrolls that were also scribed as inspired. These are held in place with wooden pegs which I anchored into handmade wooden bowls. I felt that the aged and misshapen nature of the bowls added to the overall 'artifact' feeling I wanted for these scrolls and this piece. In the foreground, on the lowest tier are two framed pages from the second book I designed but chose not to include in its entirety. A 360-degree experience, there is a nook at the rear of the art-piece which holds a gold covered blank book of handmade paper. Aptly titled, The Book of Truth, it symbolically represents a wisdom that is beyond words. All of this rests upon an eco-dyed textile piece that I printed using aged thread loosely strewn along muslin fabric before it was rolled and steamed in an eco-printing process.
